I wanted to share a few photos of logging in the good ol’ days from my old family picture album. Logging has changed a great deal but from here you can see that what we now call a logger is a far cry to what used to be.
In this picture, my Grandfather and Great Grandfather have just felled a nice tree in Skamakawa Washington. The image is a bit on the poor side, but it’s the best I have. Old spring board stumps still litter the lower end of the place here at home.
Now this looks like something one of us would try. Can you imagine how heavy this log is? I think today’s modern tin jobbies we call trucks would have issues with this load.
Start em out young and hope the fingers make it. I’m glad to see that modern sawmills have improved guards. This picture is of young Bill Badger cutting firewood with his Dad.
My dad tells me that he still has this old saw up in the old barn. Im gonna see if he will let me sneak a few pictures of it for you all. Is a gas fired drag saw.
