Here's a youtube video of my mill. I finally got around to posting it. I'm cutting a 28" diameter mesquite log. This wood is very, very hard and full of silica which sometimes dulls blades in about 2 or 3 passes. My mill DOES have an electric winch to propel it down the track but this log was too large and the winch moves too quickly down the track to use it.

All critiques welcome!

I like the vid and the choice in music(very suiting)

Question though, It looks like there is some sort of burn mark/wear mark or different cut patter every so often along the board cut. What is the cause of that?

possibly caused by different saw head carriage speeds, or imperfections in the track, or blade diving?

I don't know just curious.

Stoked for you and your new saw, some day soon I hope to be in your shoes.

Cheers!
Smokey

that is just blade lubrication built up when I brought the saw to stop for a moment. that's all.

Congratulations. I didn't know mesquite got that large, somehow I had the impression it was just brush like the willows and alders around here where a big butt is 8 or 10 inches. Personally I was annoyed by the music, not the choice of music, that was fine. Just the choice to use music. I would have much rather heard the sound of the engine laboring through that hard stick.

then watch the 2nd video, no music. Maybe I will post the video when the blade flew off and rolled about 100 yards. yes, guards are important.

Please do post the runaway blade video. It should be an interesting lesson for everyone. I confess I did only watch the first video. I was having trouble loading them.

yeah I'd like to see the third video of the run away blade, would be a great lesson for us all to learn from your mistake.

I don't think there's enough on here about safety and proper guard setups as there is on alot of other forums.

Maybe you could help me in mine, too.
Thanks for sharing.
